Taylor Cuts Through the Hype
Posted on March 7, 2010
In the first round of learning labs, industry veteran Larry Taylor welcomed a room full of contractors for his presentation, “Existing Home Energy Auditing: Cutting Through the Hype.”
Taylor has discovered in his business, AirRite Air Conditioning Co., Inc., that the existing home market is a gold mine of opportunities for those with the knowledge to cut through the hype in the marketplace and offer valuable existing home energy auditing.
“You've got to start with education,” he said. "If you're going to get into the HPC side, you've got to be fully committed. You have to assign champions to the project and be willing to change as a company."
Taylor walked attendees through home performance contracting, including the opportunity that exists in the marketplace, the ways in which contractors can get involved in home energy auditing and—perhaps most importantly—how to overcome some of the challenges of getting started.
“It's never too late to start,” he said. "You may be late to the game, but there's more than enough market out there for you to go get."
He explored with workshop participants many of the myths surrounding home performance contracting, and how to professionally address common hype with homeowners and decision makers.
Other workshops on a variety of HVACR business topics are continually presented this week in Tampa as part of ACCA’s 42nd Annual Conference and Indoor Air Expo. Read all of our blogs and news updates from the event at www.accaconference.com, or from your mobile phone at www.acca10.com.
