To LEED or not to LEED? – That is the Question

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design system of rating buildings has entered its third version, leaving contractors asking many old, and perhaps some new, questions:
Is LEED working?
What responsibilities do we all share in supporting or questioning the LEED system?
What is the role of the mechanical contractor, as defined in the LEED process?
Is the new ASHRAE building rating system going to affect LEED?
How do we deal with the increased commissioning aspects of the new standard?
What is the impact on design/build contractors/engineers?
How are the new divisions within the certification program going to effect me and my firm?
Who is really in charge of the job? (architect? GC? owner? CAx?)
What’s the difference between certification, accreditation, labeling and credentialing again?
Even if you are not involved in an actual LEED-certified project, your projects are certainly being influenced by LEED as the market moves toward more efficient and sustainable buildings. Client expectations will create demand for greater expertise in discovery and energy analysis outside the traditional HVAC scope. Contractors and engineers have a unique perspective and capacity to understand, model and deploy solutions to the marketplace.
