Digging Deeper – Diagnosing Customer Complaints Holistically
Acacia

In the warm, humid climate of Florida, houses are under constant siege from heat and humidity, where any minor mistake can have severe consequences on occupant comfort and cause lasting damage to the home. HVAC contractors in the Southeast United States are accustomed to complaints of “warm rooms”, “systems not keeping-up”, “high-humidity or sticky feelings”, even accusations of “under-sizing”. When looking at these complaints, there are seemingly straight forward solutions (such as adding tonnage when some complains of long-run times); however, often these “straight-forward” solutions may not actually resolve the issue. Many facets of the building’s construction, HVAC performance, and even homeowner behavior come together to generate these complaints and the solution may not be obvious at first-glance. Through a thorough review of the building envelope, airflow testing, infrared inspections, building envelope leakage testing and more, a holistic approach to diagnosing customer complaints reveals the full picture of a complaint and the underlying issues. Adopting such a strategy or working with a building science professional will save your company time and money by taking the guesswork out of repairs and providing a clear path forward to resolution. Join Patrick for a discussion of forensic inspection case studies where there is more than meets the eye.
