Sponsored Breakfast Session: What’s Working and What’s Not In Marketing Today
Florentine III/IV
Marketing for home service contractors looks very different today than it did even a few years ago. Rising costs, increased competition, changing homeowner behavior, and evolving platforms have made it harder to know which tactics are truly delivering results — and which ones are falling short.
In this session, Tracy Paul shares a practical, experience-driven look at what’s working in marketing today and what’s not for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors. Drawing from nearly 30 years in the industry, Tracy breaks down how common marketing channels perform in today’s environment, where expectations often miss reality, and how contractors can better align their strategy with measurable outcomes. This presentation is designed to help contractors make smarter, more confident marketing decisions that support sustainable growth.
Key Takeaways:
  • A clear understanding of which marketing tactics are performing well today — and which are under delivering
  • Insight into how homeowner behavior and decision-making have changed
  • Common mistakes contractors make when evaluating marketing results
  • How to set realistic expectations for different marketing channels
  • The role of brand, reputation, and customer experience in driving results
  • Practical guidance on measuring performance and adjusting strategy over time

What It Takes to Attract (and Keep) Good Techs
Florentine II

Hiring and retaining great techs is no longer just an HR problem. In a market where demand for skilled labor is rising and the talent pool is shrinking, HVACR companies need a system beyond posting job ads and offering signing bonuses.

In this session, Westie Magnuson, Chief People Officer at Cornel’s Plumbing, Heating & Air, shares field-tested strategies that helped Cornel’s scale from 34 to 65 employees — mostly techs — in under a year, while earning a spot on Oregon’s Top 100 Companies to Work For list.

Sponsored Breakfast: Stop Hiring, Start Scaling: How HVAC Leaders Are Using AI Agents to Run Leaner, More Profitable Businesses
Florentine I/II
The traditional HVAC operating model is hitting a wall.
Rising labor costs, unworked leads, missed follow-ups, and growing operational complexity are no longer execution issues — they’re built into operations. In 2026, the contractors pulling ahead aren’t hiring faster. They’re removing headcount as the primary constraint on growth by deploying AI agents as a digital workforce.
This session challenges long-held assumptions about how HVAC businesses should scale and breaks down:
  • How AI agents now handle customer engagement, speed-to-lead, job scheduling, estimate follow-up, and membership growth autonomously
  • What changes when revenue is no longer capped by staffing capacity
  • How contractors are shifting from headcount-driven teams to AI-powered operations that multiply their best people
You’ll experience live examples of AI agents performing the work that typically consumes CSRs, inside sales, and administrative capacity — in real time, without supervision — showing how human effort can be redirected toward higher-value work.
This isn’t about cutting staff or chasing hype. It’s about building an operation where your top-performers have leverage, not limits.
If you want to understand what HVAC looks like on the other side of this shift — and decide whether to lead or follow — this session will show you what’s coming.

Keynote: How Companies Can Get Their Courage Back
Roman Ballroom

There’s a noticeable deficiency of courage in the business world. It is absent from business models, boardrooms, company cultures, and mission statements. Courageous leadership seems to have taken a sabbatical—and many businesses are far worse for it. Most terrifying of all, employees within an organization who aspire to make calculated courageous calls across a company are not getting the opportunity to do so. Their bold ideas are getting squashed along the way or, sadly, they’ve landed in a culture where iterative growth has become the goal throughout the hallways. Instead of spending the next 1200 words delving deeper about “why” this is our current diagnosis, I’d prefer to simply tap into “how” we can help those willing leaders help their companies get their courage back. Indeed, unlocking courage, when truly embraced and understood, can be your ultimate X factor and competitive advantage.

Change is hard, but the hardships of not changing are harder! If you wish your team could be more courageous, Ryan will share a practical step-by-step approach you could start implementing across your organization the moment Ryan leaves your stage.

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Sponsored Lunch Session: 4 Pillars to Building Value - Scaling, Optimizing, Acquiring, and Selling
Roman Ballroom

Most HVACR owners are taught to grow by working harder… adding trucks, hiring more technicians, expanding territories, and hoping profits don’t disappear along the way. In this session, Brandon Dawson challenges that outdated thinking and introduces a smarter way to build a business ─ one that’s designed for value, not just volume. You’ll learn why growth without strategy often creates more stress, tighter margins, and a company that’s harder to run… and harder to sell.

Brandon breaks down the 4 Pillars to Building for Value: Scaling, Optimizing, Acquiring, and Selling, and shows how the most successful HVACR owners use them to grow faster with less operational strain. Gain clarity on when organic growth makes sense, when acquisitions can shortcut years of effort, and why building with an eventual exit in mind changes every decision you make today. Whether you plan to sell or simply want a stronger, more profitable company, this session will reshape how you think about growth and long-term success.

Designing Heat Pump Systems That Won’t Come Back to Haunt You
Florentine II

Designing an HVAC system with a variable capacity heat pump is no longer a future-forward concept; it’s what top contractors have been doing for years to win more jobs and delight homeowners. But let’s be honest: navigating Manual S®, emergency heat, duct capacity concerns, and utility costs for every project can feel like a minefield.

In this session, we’ll cut through the confusion with clear guidance you can apply to your next project. We’ll cover:

  1. How to apply advanced Manual S® procedures the right way for variable speed systems
  2. When (and when not) to use strip heat, dual-fuel, or no backup at all (and how that relates to duct capacity issues)
  3. Hidden operating cost traps in different regions, and how to avoid them
  4. How targeted envelope improvements can reduce HVAC headaches, and what to prioritize first

Partnering with one of the nation’s top heat pump contractors, we’ll walk through real case studies and show how high-performance heat pump design can be simple, scalable, and profitable when done right.

Technical Retrofit
Florentine III

Retrofits aren’t as simple as swapping old for new, and in this practical session, you’ll learn why. This session is designed to give you clear, usable takeaways you can apply right away to avoid common retrofit mistakes, improve system performance, and deliver better comfort for your customers.

Don't Lose Your Cool: Getting Ahead of the Refrigerant Curve
Florentine II

The refrigerant landscape is shifting fast, and staying ahead means understanding what’s changing, when, and what it means for your business. This session cuts through the confusion around both regulatory changes and the technical transition to A2L refrigerants —two critical shifts that are already impacting how contractors operate.

We’ll cover the regulatory landscape: the AIM Act’s HFC phasedown, state-level rules like California SB 1206 and New York’s Local Law 494, and the bans, sell-through timelines, and key deadlines you need to track. Then we’ll get into A2L refrigerants — what makes them different, where you’re already seeing them in new equipment, and how to properly handle them after removal from systems. You’ll get clear guidance on:

  • Safety and technical considerations for working with A2L
  • Timeline planning for regulatory compliance

Walk away with answers and a game plan for adapting to these changes before they impact your business.

Training Techs to Think Like Owners
Florentine III

Owners don’t have a technician problem; they have an ownership mindset gap in the field, and it’s costing them time, energy, and growth. You can’t always scale effort, but you can scale mindset—and ownership thinking is the multiplier. Drawing from hands-on operational experience with hundreds of trade businesses, this highly interactive session shows how top-performing companies train technicians to think with an ownership mindset—making smarter decisions on every call, protecting the customer experience, and driving consistent results rooted in ownership rather than transactional behavior. The result is an ownership mindset embedded across the organization that raises standards, reinforces follow-through, and allows you to scale sustainably.
